October 16-18. Troop 93 were guests at Breaks Interstate park in the western section of Virginia bordering Kentucky. The staff at the Breaks was so nice and delighted to have us , we were treated to tours in our (limo) Driven around on HEATED tours of the park and museum. Terry, the Naturalist at the park, picked us up promptly at 11 am and took us on a hike on the overlook trail and the Geological Trail teaching and feeding us edible plants. We discussed mushrooms and trees as well as rock formations. We had lunch filling Terry full of Ben’s grilled cheese. We then ventured back in the limo to Garden Hole Rd. where we hiked the Camp Branch Trail, where we discovered Earth Cache, and we learned of the history in building the tunnels on the railroad.
The weather was nice we had lows 36 and 34, rain, snow, light winds, highs in the 40’s . The boys hiked out to the basketball court to shoot some hoops and were exploring the park on wrong turn trail ! Saturday night we had a touching Flag retirement ceremony retiring 34 US flags and 2 VA Flags. Troop 93 had 3 boys and 3 adults show up for the camp, braving the cold weather and flu, we all had a great time !
